Dots

Dots

What Is It:  Fruity gummy candy that comes in 5 flavours: Green which is lime, yellow which is lemon, orange which is orange  (gasp!), light red which is strawberry  (I think), and dark red which is cherry  (I know).

Packaging: Dots come in their trademark yellow box with a little picture of the Dots on the bottom.  A very recognizable candy box.

Taste/ Final Analysis: This is one of my all time favourite candies. The flavours are all very easy to recognize with the exception of that light red which like I said I think is strawberry but I'm not absolutely positive of that. The lime is very limey, the lemon is very lemony, the orange is very orangey, and the cherry which is my favourite is an absolutely fantastic take on the cherry flavour. Seriously I could eat boxes and boxes of just the cherry ones. But I want to take nothing away from the other flavours which are all fantastic in theirown right. I prefer this big box as opposed to the very small one's that you often see because I like to get a good sampling of all the flavours.

Fast Bites BBQ Chicken Sandwich

Fast Bites BBQ Chicken Sandwich

What Is It: A frozen bbq chicken sandwich that I bought at Dollar Tree.

Packaging: It comes in a red box with a picture of the chicken sandwich on it. Looks decent enough.

6.5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This was a reasonably good sandwich. It was on the sweet bbq side which was fine. For processed chicken it had good texture which is important. Put it all together you have a good hold me over snack for between big meals.

Snapps Cream Cheese Pepper Bites (by Golden County Foods)

Snapps Cream Cheese Pepper Bites  ( by Golden County Foods)

What Is It: Frozen jalapeño popper type things that I bought at Dollar Tree.

Packaging: They come in a pretty basic box with a picture of the poppers on it. Average.
5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This blew away my expectations. They really had a lot of flavour and a lot of spice too. There was a good bit of cream cheese in it and instead of putting a whole jalapeño in them they cut the peppers small which I think helped distribute the spice through every bite. My only complaint is even for a dollar they could have put a few more in the box. But what was there was delicious. A hidden gem at the Dollar Tree.

Orville Redenbacher Microwave Movie Theatre Butter Popcorn

Orville Redenbacher Microwave Movie Theatre Butter Popcorn

What Is It: Microwave butter popcorn.

Packaging: A red box with a big bowl of popcorn in the middle of it. Not bad.
6 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This was a very satisfying popcorn. They put a good amount of butter on it which is very important in my world. The popcorn is the right texture and has nice big pieces. It is very easy to burn this popcorn so be very aware of that when preparing. Otherwise a solid, tasty product.

Chex Mix Muddy Buddies Cookies And Cream

Chex Mix Muddy Buddies Cookies And Cream

What Is It: A sweet take on Chex Mix with cookies covered with a white powder.

Packaging: It comes in a mostly white bag with a picture of the product on the top. Solid if unspectacular.

5.5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This was a decent take on cookiescream. The dominant flavour is the white powder which served as the cream element. It tasted kinda like the powder from a powdered donut which wasn't a bad thing. I didn't get a ton of cookie flavour but enough to make it worthwhile. A pretty good offering.

Little Debbie Butterfly Cakes

Little Debbie Butterfly Cakes

What Is It:  Chocolate cupcakes filled with creme and shaped like pink butterflies.

Packaging: Little Debbie always goes all out on the boxes and this is no exception. It looks like a spring day with lots of butterflies and then the product in the center. Looks great.

9.5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This was fairly good. The cake was still fairly moist or as moist as a packaged cake is going to get. The frosting tasted decent enough. I don't think this tasted as good as it looked as it was meant to appeal to the younger crowd but still it was good enough.

Kroger Smoke Flavoured Provolone

Kroger Smoke Flavoured Provolone

What Is It: The title says it all.

Packaging: It comes in a forest green package with a clear spot to see the cheese. Pretty average.

5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This is a pretty decent version of sliced provolone. As the title suggests it's very heavy on the smoke flavour which works well here. I used it this time just by itself for a sandwich but there's tons of uses for this from combining it with meats on a cold cut sandwich to melting it on pasta. It has a very rubbery texture but the flavours are definitely right.

Tootsie Fruit Chews

Tootsie Fruit Chews

What Is It: Little fruit flavoured taffy rolls. They come in cherry, vanilla, lemon, lime, and orange.

Packaging: It comes in an orange outer bag with the rolls themselves being the colour of the fruit that it represents. Good enough.

6.5 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: As a fan of fruit flavoured candy this is one of my go to's when I go to the Dollar Tree  (or wherever else I see them.) They are all very true to the fruits they represent with cherry being my favourite followed by orange, lemon, vanilla, and finally lime. But that'smore of an indication of my favourite flavours as they are all very juicy and possess strong flavour. If you like fruity candy then check these out.

Bit O Honey

Bit O Honey

What Is It: A taffy like chewy candy with a strong honey flavour.

Packaging: They don't ever change their classic packaging for this as it has its traditional red and yellow bag with an adorable bee on the front. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

8 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This candy has been around a long time and for good reason. It's delicious. You get the one flavour and that's honey and it lasts for quite a while. One piece will take you 3-5 minutes to finish completely  (unless you stupidly swallow it whole or something.) I always think of this as the ideal candy to have while walking or hiking because it won't melt and you can just pop one in your mouth and go. Very hard on your teeth though.

Caramel Marshmallow Sugar Babies

Caramel Marshmallow Sugar Babies

What Is It: The box reads "delicious candy coated pieces filled with caramel and marshmallow." Can't argue with that.

Packaging: Nice baby blue box with pictures of caramel and marshmallows on it. Looks cool.

7 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: This is definitely a candy for the caramel lover. Lots of caramel flavour with every bite. Despite the white colour in the candies I didn't really get any marshmallow flavour whatsoever. I liked these a lot but if you're going to advertise marshmallow flavour as a major part of your product than you have to deliver.

5.5 out of 10 (delicious but major points off for not delivering what was advertised.)

Private Selection Roast Beef And Kroger Medium Cheddar Cheese Slices

Private Selection Roast Beef And Kroger Medium Cheddar Cheese

What Is It: I put these two items together because I ate them together and they're made by the same company. The roast beef I got sliced medium  (not thin or thick) at the deli counter. The cheese was by two packs for $3 over in the cheese section at Kroger.

Packaging: Both items were in acceptable, no frills packaging.

6 out of 10

Taste/ Final Analysis: I made cold cut sandwiches out of these and delicious sandwiches they were. The roast beef had just the right amount of pink in it and just melted in my mouth. The cheddar added that bit of sharpness to the sandwich and squirt some mustard on it and it's delightful. Even though I didn't do it this time the roast beef would have been great as a hot open faced sandwich with a little gravy on it too. The cheese could be used for a wide variety of things as well and was great for this application. Some great stuff from Kroger here.
